Biodiversity in our Backyard

Biodiversity in our Backyard

What is Biodiversity in our Backyard?

We believe that the first step toward protecting our environment can start close to home. That’s why we’ve teamed up with artist Lindsay Deely and the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children to launch Biodiversity in our Backyard, a fun, creative way for children to explore the natural world.

There are three parts to this project:

Youth Workshops

Youth Workshops

We work with underrepresented communities (aged 8-12) across Galway to introduce biodiversity and explore our local green spaces through physical activity, scientific methods and art.

Developing Inclusive Materials

Developing Inclusive Materials

Informed by our youth workshops, our researchers are creating learning materials which will support the use of post-colonial language around biodiversity in and outside of classrooms

Involving Young People

Involving Young People

Young people that aren’t part of our workshops can also get involved with Biodiversity in our Backyard!

  1. Download the Backyard Biodiversity Worksheet.
  2. Head outside and explore your chosen green space.
  3. Use the worksheet to record your discoveries and inspire your drawing.
  4. Send your completed drawing to Baboró via the email address on the worksheet and become part of our gallery.
