Aidan Magee

Aidan Magee is a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Climate+ Co-Centre and is based in the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) in Maynooth University. As an earth observation specialist, his work focuses on using remote sensing technologies (satellite, aircraft, and drone-based) to enhance our understanding of the environment.

He has extensive experience in applying this knowledge to both climate-related and non-climate-related fields and has been involved in several research projects, including:

Terrain-AI : A multi-institutional research project focused on developing solutions to monitor environmental sustainability

Grass to Gas: A research project in collaboration with Kildare County Council focused on exploring the energy potential of public lands through the generation of biomethane.

DecaMap: A research project funded through the ’SFI-Defence organisation challenge’ focused on the development of innovative Earth Observation and AI technologies for real-time Emergency Response

Atlantic Pathfinder Project: A research project focused on Maritime surveillance with a particular focus on ‘dark vessel’ detection using both SAR and Optical satellite data.

As part of the Climate+ Co-Centre, Aidan’s role is focused on utilising earth observation and advanced machine learning techniques for improved land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) reporting. This work has been undertaken in collaboration with the EPA.
