Anne Mullen
Dr Anne Mullen is Funded Investigator at the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water, where she is part of the team working in the Sustainable Agri-food Transitions theme.
Dr Mullen is a Lecturer in Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security at the Ryan Institute and within the Sustainable World Section of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences. Her research focuses on sustainable food systems that support nutrition security for all, citizen empowerment in food systems transformation, and effective science communication for both public and policy audiences.
A nutrition scientist by training, Dr Mullen holds a PhD in Molecular Nutrition from Trinity College Dublin. She completed postdoctoral research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she worked on complementary feeding interventions for HIV-exposed infants in Zambia.
Previously, Dr Mullen was a Lecturer in Nutritional Sciences at King’s College London. Her work there included research on HIV-associated lipodystrophy syndrome in London and the delivery of an acute malnutrition intervention for HIV-positive children and adults in Uganda.
Dr Mullen has also held senior leadership roles beyond academia. As Director of Nutrition at the Dairy Council for Great Britain, she provided evidence-based guidance on dairy, nutrition and health to citizens, health professionals, researchers, industry and policymakers.
She was the launch Chief Editor of Nature Food, and in this role organised and moderated sessions and side events at major international forums, including the UN Food Systems Summit Science Days, the Food and Agriculture Organization Science and Innovation Forum, the Nutrition for Growth Summit, and the International Congress of Nutrition (2021–2022).
