Dagmawi Teklu Asfaw

Dagmawi Asfaw is a research scientist in climate observations at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, based at the University of Reading. His work focuses on developing high-resolution rainfall datasets for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, supporting the Climate+ Co-Centre’s mission to deliver tailored climate information that improves understanding of regional rainfall patterns and informs climate-related decision-making.

Prior to joining the Climate+ Co-Centre, Dagmawi was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bristol, where he worked on the DOWN2EARTH project. This research involved developing an accessible tool to monitor regional water storage in dryland regions and using it to support communication and social adaptation to both short-term climate shocks and long-term hydrological change in East Africa.

Dagmawi completed his PhD in Meteorology at the University of Reading, where he developed TAMSAT-ALERT, an agricultural decision-support tool that combines historical climate data, seasonal forecasts and model outputs to support informed agricultural decision-making across Africa.
