Fiachra O’Loughlin

Fiachra is an Assistant Professor in the University College Dublin (UCD) School of Civil Engineering, specialising in hydrology and remote sensing. His research interests are centered on developing and testing hydrological and hydraulic models, as well as utilising remote sensing technologies to enhance understanding of natural and built environments, particularly concerning risks posed by extreme weather events.

He is the current Director of the Dooge Centre for Water Resources Research. Fiachra is an inaugural UCD Climate Fellow and the co-lead of the Earth Institutes’ Water theme. Fiachra is a funded investigator with the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water and is supervising a PhD researcher investigating the impact of barriers on sediment movements through monitoring and modelling.
