Gerard Dooly

Professor Gerard Dooly is an Associate Professor in Robotics and Automation at the University of Limerick and a Funded Investigator with the Climate + Co-Centre. He specialises in developing robots, drones, and smart sensors to monitor coasts, oceans, and critical infrastructure in safer and more sustainable ways.

At Climate +, Gerard collaborates with engineers, scientists, and local partners to create practical technologies that reduce emissions, protect marine environments, and support coastal communities. His work includes using aerial and underwater robots to track pollution and coastal change, as well as developing digital tools that transform field data into actionable insights for decision-makers.

In addition to his research, Gerard teaches and mentors students, helping train the next generation of engineers to address climate and environmental challenges.
