Jennifer McKinley
Prof. Jennifer McKinley is Professor of Geology and Mathematical Geoscience and Director of the Centre for GIS and Geomatics at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). She is a Principal Investigator of the Co-Centre for Climate+ Biodiversity+ Water and Co-Lead of the monitoring theme within the Frontier projects.
Jennifer is a Chartered Fellow of The Geological Society and has previously served as a Trustee and Council Member from 2015 to 2018. She was the Past President of the International Association of Mathematical Geoscientists (IAMG) from 2016 to 2020, and she received the 2024 IAMG Krumbein Medal. Additionally, Jennifer was a member of the Executive Council of the International Union of Geological Sciences from 2020 to 2024. She also sits on the British Geological Survey Science Advisory Committee and serves as the QUB Principal Investigator for the EU project UPSURGE.
Jennifer is the Co-Director of the Natural Environment Research Council QUADRAT Doctoral Training Programme, which has enabled the training of 125 PhD students over 6 years. She has supervised 35 PhD students and with authorship of >170 peer reviewed scientific publications. A key focus of her research seeks to gain a greater understanding of the link between health and environmental and climatic impacts.
