John O’Sullivan
Dr. O’Sullivan is Head of the School of Civil Engineering at University College Dublin (UCD), a member of the UCD Dooge Centre for Water Resources Research, and a Fellow of the UCD Earth Institute. He holds a BA and BAI from Trinity College Dublin, an MSc from Queen’s University Belfast, and a PhD from the University of Ulster.
With over 25 years of experience in teaching and research, Dr. O’Sullivan specialises in hydrology, hydraulics, and hydrodynamic modelling. He has led numerous national and European research projects and has published more than 65 peer-reviewed journal articles along with over 60 conference papers. He is an editor for the International Water Association (IWA) Journal of Water Supply and has served as an external examiner for research Masters and PhD theses nationally and internationally.
As part of the Climate + Co-Centre, Dr. O’Sullivan contributes to developing monitoring strategies and rapid response indicators to guide the implementation of restoration measures aimed at improving water quality in rivers and streams. His work focuses on monitoring initiatives that reduce diffuse agricultural pollution and fine sediment inputs, helping to inform effective restoration practices in line with the goals of the EU Water Framework Directive.
