Ken Byrne
Professor Ken Byrne is the Co-Lead of the Investing in Carbon and Nature theme for industry projects at the Climate+ Co-Centre. With a background in forestry and soil science, his research focuses on how land use and land-use change affect soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions across different ecosystems and timescales. He has worked extensively in forest and peatland environments, using field measurements and biogeochemical models to study carbon cycling, greenhouse gas exchange, and carbon storage in harvested wood products.
Ken coordinates the PeatFor project, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, which focuses on managing peatland forests for both climate and biodiversity benefits. He serves on the editorial boards of PLOS Climate, Discover Forests, and Frontiers in Forest and Global Change, and internationally, he is a lead author for reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
