Maarten Blaauw
Maarten Blaauw is a palaeoecologist specialising in peatlands, radiocarbon dating, and numerical modelling. He is Director of the 14CHRONO Centre for Climate, the Environment and Chronology at Queen’s University Belfast, which provides radiocarbon dating services for peat bogs, archaeological sites, marine cores, and a variety of other environments. Maarten has developed and maintains several open-source R packages for radiocarbon dating and age-modelling.
As part of the Climate+ Co-Centre, he contributes to research reconstructing the development of peatlands using radiocarbon age-modelling combined with subfossil analysis of cores from Northern Irish peat bogs (Platform 2.2), providing insights into past environmental and climate change.
