Our People
Matthew Saunders
Matthew Saunders is a researcher studying the role of terrestrial ecosystems in climate feedback cycles. Using a combination of experimental and model-based approaches, he investigates how land cover, land management, disturbances, and climate influence the exchange of carbon, water, energy, and other greenhouse gases between the biosphere and atmosphere. His work helps quantify the warming or cooling effects of different ecosystems, improve understanding of the ecological and physiological drivers of carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics, and inform land management strategies that support climate change mitigation.
