Silvia Caldararu
Silvia is a researcher who studies how climate change affects plants and how these changes influence the global carbon cycle, creating feedbacks to the climate system. She uses land surface models to interpret current plant and ecosystem data and make predictions about future environmental changes.
Silvia completed her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2013, where she developed a global model of leaf phenology. She then spent two years at Microsoft Research Cambridge, working on general models of crop growth. From 2015 to 2022, she was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, contributing to the QUINCY model and exploring nutrient limitations in ecosystems and the effects of elevated CO₂ on plant physiology.
Since summer 2022, Silvia has been based at Trinity College Dublin, continuing her work on understanding plant responses to climate change and their broader impacts on ecosystems and the carbon cycle.
