Yvonne Buckley

Professor Yvonne Buckley is an ecologist and Professor of Zoology at Trinity College Dublin. She is the Co-Director of the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water. She is also the Director of the AIB Trinity Climate Hub, a research centre focused on climate and nature, supported by AIB.
Prof. Buckley has expertise in environmental decision-making, conservation, restoration, natural capital management and population ecology. She leads a team of researchers and students dedicated to understanding the fundamental drivers of animal and plant population processes in a rapidly changing world. She uses these discoveries to provide support for environmental decisions in the areas of biodiversity conservation, invasive species management, climate change and habitat restoration.
Prof. Buckley has published highly cited research in conservation, ecology, zoology, botany, and agricultural science. Her work has received several honours including the Irish Research Council Researcher of the Year (2021), the British Ecological Society (BES) President’s Medal (2021), a BES Award (2022), and the Trinity Innovation Award for Exceptional Achievement (2024).
She is a member of Ireland’s Climate Change Advisory Council, and she is also a member of both the Royal Irish Academy and Academia Europaea.
Additionally, Prof. Buckley writes a monthly science column for the Irish Times and serves as a Director for both Dublin Zoo and Ireland’s National Biodiversity Data Centre.
