Skills for the Green Transition

Skills for the Green Transition

We support workers to build new technical skills and take part in industry-focused training. We help them learn to use digital tools that are important for the green transition, the shift to cleaner energy, lower pollution, and more sustainable ways of living and working. We also work with universities and colleges to support education and training across different sectors.

AI & Climate Sustainability Sandbox

The Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water, in partnership with Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet, works with forward-thinking companies through intensive, one-week AI Sandbox events. These focused sprints bring industry challenges together with academic expertise, using AI-driven approaches to address real-world climate and sustainability problems.

Participating companies bring data and a pressing AI and sustainability challenge, which is taken on by a dedicated team of AI specialists, climate modellers, hydrologists, and energy experts. Over five days, each challenge is analysed, modelled, and rapidly prototyped, translating cutting-edge research into practical, business-ready insights.

By the end of the week, participants leave with early-stage solutions, tested code, open-source documentation, and a strategic report tailored to their organisation. Collectively, the Sandbox events provide companies with a strong foundation for internal decision-making and further development.
