Emma Ford

Emma Ford recently joined Climate + through the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology where she works as a Hydro-climate Data Scientist. She is currently working on the project Hydrological Projections while completing her PhD, which focuses on applying statistical and machine learning methods to large-sample hydrometeorological datasets. Her research aims to improve understanding of flood-generating mechanisms and advance methods for flood estimation, helping to support more effective climate resilience and water management.

Emma’s academic and professional background spans engineering, water science, and environmental research. She holds a BEng in Civil Engineering and completed an industry placement year that provided experience across multiple areas of the water sector, including wastewater treatment, water quality, and civil engineering. She then pursued an MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management before joining the NERC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) programme in Environmental Research.

Through her work, Emma combines data science, hydrology, and climate research to develop innovative approaches for understanding and managing hydrological extremes in a changing climate.
