Astrid Wingler
Professor Astrid Wingler holds a PhD in plant physiology from the University of Tübingen (Germany). She worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Sheffield (UK) and Basel (Switzerland), before moving to University College London (UK), where she held the positions of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer. In 2015, she joined University College Cork (Ireland) as Professor of Plant Biology, where she has also held positions as Head of Plant Science and Head of the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences.
Professor Wingler’s research focuses on the responses of plants to a changing environment, with the goal of increasing the climate resilience of agri-ecosystems. For example, her research explores the role of functional plant diversity in grasslands for yield stability and carbon sequestration.
These research interests align closely with the Investing in Carbon and Nature research theme of the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water.
