Barry Sheehan

Dr Barry Sheehan is Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, and Associate Professor in Risk Management and Insurance. His research focuses on emerging risks, insurance and the changing risk profile generated by emerging technologies or phenomena, with a strong applied orientation shaped by his professional background in the insurance sector. He is Co-Director of the Centre for Emerging Risk Studies (CERS), Research Affiliate at the Central Bank of Ireland, and an academic member of Lero, the Research Ireland Research Centre for Software. He also serves as a Funded Investigator at the Climate + Co-Centre, where his work examines the insurance industry’s role in addressing the climate challenge, particularly in terms of natural catastrophe resilience, affordability, and innovative public-private risk transfer mechanisms. Dr Sheehan has led and collaborated on numerous competitively funded European, national and industry projects, including major Horizon Europe, Interreg Europe, UK NCSC, Luxembourg FNR and Enterprise Ireland initiatives.
