Ijlal Haidar

Ijlal Haidar is a Postgraduate Researcher at the Climate + Co-Centre and the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) at University College Cork. His research focuses on plant responses to climate change, with a particular interest in grassland conservation, restoration, and sustainable ecosystem management.

Currently, he is working on a collaborative research project supported by Eli Lilly and Company, investigating the conservation of Hordeum secalinum (meadow barley), a rare native grass species in Ireland. His work explores how increasing temperatures and drought conditions affect the growth and physiological responses of grassland species through growth chamber and glasshouse experiments.

He has a strong background in forestry, plant sciences, and ecological research, with experience in field surveys, laboratory experiments, and climate-related plant studies. Through his research, he aims to contribute to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and the development of sustainable management strategies for threatened grassland ecosystems.
