John Garvey 

Professor Garvey is an Associate Professor of Finance and Insurance at the University of Limerick. He holds a BA in English and Economics and an MA in Applied Economics from the University of Galway, as well as an MSc in Investment and a PhD in Finance from Dublin City University.

His research explores the environmental impacts and dependencies of the financial and insurance sectors, with a focus on how financial flows can be directed to protect and restore nature. He currently serves as Coordinator and Lead Investigator of BIOFIN-EU (EU Horizon Research and Innovation Action, 2024–2026), a project developing a framework and technology to enable nature-positive investments across Europe.
