This project will create a Climate Impacts Atlas that brings together data and findings from our other research projects focused on future Projections and Monitoring. Using the latest high-resolution climate data, the project will improve on previous research to provide more detailed and accurate information.
As part of the work, the team will also develop a free, open-source weather generator. This tool will be able to produce realistic weather patterns for the UK and Ireland down to an hourly level and across specific regions like river catchments. It will build on an existing model, but will offer improved accuracy and flexibility.
Additionally, to support researchers working across related projects, the Climate Impacts Atlas will also provide tailored climate datasets, helpful tools, and access to powerful computing systems. This will be done in collaboration with a separate project that is using advanced AI to link and integrate climate data from different sources.
Project Goals
-
Create climate future projections datasets, building on the work carried out as part of the Climate Projections at Different Global Warming Levels and Storylines for the Possible Future Climate & Biodiversity of the British & Irish Isles projects.
-
Present the climate impact projection datasets in an interactive online Climate Impacts Atlas.
-
Produce high-resolution historical climate datasets and products and visualise the data on the Climate Impacts Atlas.
-
Develop an open-source weather generator.
-
Support the research conducted with business partners by providing data products.
